Small-sized self-defense assault rifles, created within the framework of the "Kid" project, have passed preliminary tests. The production of prototypes began.
Dmitry Tarasov, general director of the Kalashnikov concern, told RIA Novosti that after passing preliminary tests, the new machines will be sent for state testing.
Earlier it was reported that the company developed the AM-17 and AMB-17 assault rifles. They will replace the obsolete AKS-74U. The total length of the new samples is 740 mm. All the main parts of the machine are located at the top of the receiver. Thanks to composite materials, the weapon weighs only 2.5 kilograms.
One of the versions of the machine is equipped with a silencer for silent shooting. The cartridge used is 5.45x39 mm. Magazine capacity - 30 rounds.
